Why Essential Oils are Good for You

Essential oils are like the doctors in the world of oils. Numerous scientific studies have shown that essential oils have remarkable medicinal properties. However, unlike harmful chemicals that remain in your body, essential oils don’t leave toxins behind. Sure, they smell great, but they do something more important: instead of masking unwanted odours, they cleanse the air by altering the structure of the molecules responsible for the funky smells.

As some of you may know, I have a condition known as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and one of the most debilitating aspects of this condition is that I’m severely allergic to synthetic fragrances. You can probably imagine what my life is like. I get crazy migraines, vomit, and have trouble breathing – just to name a few symptoms. This makes it extremely difficult for me to go to work because it’s not scent-free, or go to parties, and even to take public transit. Why am I talking about this? Well, using blended essential oils topically and as an inhaler have helped me a lot. They have many times downgraded my migraines to a regular headache. I have to emphasize that synthetic fragrances are NOT the same as natural, true essential oils. The former were originally created to imitate the latter; true essential oils are very expensive to produce and synthetic fragrances are extremely cheap (and most contain harmful chemicals that are carcinogenic or mess with your hormones!). Just to give you an idea of why essential oils are so expensive, it takes 60 roses to create one drop of rose otto. Unbelievable. So, when you see a bottle of essential oil that is cheap, it may not be true (real) essential oil; it may be diluted or of poor quality. Always check the ingredient list for the botanical name of the plant to ensure that you are getting a pure product. I know essential oils are very expensive, but there are so useful and in my opinion, necessary.
